Red Lodge, MT --- City of Red Lodge Community Development Dept.

Planner 1 or 2: The City of Red Lodge is seeking a full-time Planner 1 or 2 to perform a variety of routine and complex technical work in the area of Land Use Regulation, development and construction inspection(s) to insure compliance with the prevailing Red Lodge Development Codes and any amendments thereto as well as enforcement of other City Codes and Ordinances as directed.

Candidate must have Bachelors Degree (Masters Preferred) in Planning or a related field and three to five years experience in Planning, GIS or Land Use, or equivalent combination of education and experience. Knowledge of Montana Floodplain, Zoning and Subdivision Laws is preferred. A track record of working with the public, surveyors, engineers and contractors is desired. Good computer and communication skills are mandatory as well as the ability to read blueprints, site plans and construction documents. Work is performed in both indoor and outdoor settings.

Salary DOQ-DOE $39,769.60 to $43,929.60/year plus City Benefits.

Glendive, MT --- City of Glendive/Dawson County Planning

City/County Planner: This position serves the City of Glendive and the County of Dawson in eastern Montana. The position responsibilities include:

  • Administer and insure compliance with Dawson County/ City of Glendive Subdivision Regulations, Floodplain Management Regulations, and Zoning Regulations
  • Review and process Floodplain applications, subdivision plats, certificates-of-survey, and zone-change and conditional use requests
  • Review building permits for zoning compliance, conduct on-site compliance checks
  • Provide administrative support to the Floodplain Committee
  • Research, prepare and present written findings and staff recommendations to support permitting decisions on development proposals for the Planning Board, City Council, and County Commissioners
  • Research land use issues and legislative rulings and update land use regulations
  • Advise Planning Board, Commissioners, and Council on planning issues
  • Update Growth Policy and perform other long-range planning studies;
  • Coordinate with County, City, regional, and local groups on land use planning and economic/community development issues
  • Provide regulatory information to the public
  • Prepare legal notices and maintain public records
  • Write grant proposals for planning-related projects
  • Receive Certified Floodplain Manager status within one year of hire
  • Attend regular evening meetings

Position requires Bachelor’s degree in Land Use Planning, Land Use Law, Political Science, or related field; plus a minimum of 2 years experience in municipal planning; or equivalent combination of education and experience clearly demonstrating possession of required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities. Starting salary range is from $15 to $17 per hour, DOQ, plus benefits. Full-time, permanent position.
